Julie Butters is a writer, actress, and the author of Pocket Prayers for Young Professionals (Twenty-Third Publications) under the name Julie Rattey. She is a former senior editor/writer at Boston University and the former managing editor of Catholic Digest magazine, where she traveled globally to write feature articles and conducted interviews with celebrities including actor Oscar Isaac and then-presidential candidate Barack Obama.

A graduate of Harvard University, where she co-chaired the Hyperion Shakespeare Company, Julie has studied playwrighting under Adrienne Kennedy, poetry under Jorie Graham, and acting under Scott Ziegler (formerly of the American Repertory Theater) and Tina Packer of Shakespeare & Company. She has performed at Harvard and in theatres around New England in roles including Juliet, Elizabeth Bennet, Lady Macbeth, and Timon of Athens. She also sings professionally as a church cantor.

Julie has written stage adaptations of Little Women and Jane Eyre, in which she appeared as Jo and Jane respectively. The productions were mounted by Flock Theatre at the historic Shaw Mansion in New London, Connecticut. Julie completed the GrubStreet Novel Generator program under author Annie Hartnett and is working on her first young adult novel.
